Universal Announces Western Division Leadership Transition

June 15, 2007

Bobby Hill to Retire as Divisional President; UFPI Veteran Pat Webster Succeeds Hill; Regional VP Dick Frazier to Retire; Successor is 15-Year Employee Michael Dube

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 15, 2007--Universal Forest Products, Inc. (NASDAQ:UFPI) today announced the implementation of succession plans for two long-time officers of the company: Bobby Hill, president of Universal Western Division, and Dick Frazier, vice president of the Southwest Region. Their successors also are two Universal veterans: Pat Webster, vice president of the Far West Region, has been tapped to replace Hill, and Michael Dube, vice president of operations for the Southwest Region, will replace Frazier.

"Bobby and Dick have helped to drive the success of this company and we're grateful to them for their strong contributions and years of dedication," said President and CEO Michael B. Glenn. "Our succession planning and leadership development programs allow us to replace these two leaders with others from within Universal whose skills have been cultivated and proven over many years, Pat Webster and Michael Dube. The Western Division and its regions are in good hands as we move confidently into the future with this new generation of leadership."

Under his succession plan, Hill will step down from his position on July 1, 2007 to work closely with Webster on the transition through the end of the year. On Jan. 1, 2008, Hill will retire from Universal and become a consultant to the Company.

Hill joined Universal in 1986 as a sales representative in Grandview, TX. Because of his successes, he was appointed to positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in his 2002 appointment as Western Division president. Pat Webster began his career in sales and purchasing at Universal's Grand Rapids, MI headquarters. He was promoted to successive executive positions in purchasing and operations. He became vice president of the Far West Region in 1999.

"Bobby Hill's 21 years at Universal have been marked by dedication, hard work and loyalty and we're grateful to him for his role in growing our success," Glenn said. "Bobby typifies the Universal spirit, and he has passed along his strong work ethic and skill set to those who work with and succeed him."

Dick Frazier joined Universal in 1989 as Vice President of the Southwest Region. At 65, he faces the company's policy of mandatory retirement as an officer; however, he has chosen to remain an employee. On July 1, 2007, Frazier will step down from the day-to-day operations to work with his successor, Michael Dube, on a smooth transition. Dube joined Universal in 1992 in sales in Saginaw, TX and worked his way through management positions in sales and operations. He was appointed operational vice president of the Southwest Region in 2001. On Jan. 1, 2008, Frazier will take a new position working on special projects focused primarily on lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

"Dick Frazier is the best lumberman I know," Glenn said. "He is respected by customers, vendors and employees alike. And he has grown our Texas business from one successful operation to ten. Fortunately for us, he cares more about the work than about titles and has chosen to stay on the Universal team."
