Universal Forest Products Acquires 50% Ownership of United Lumber & Reman, LLC
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 11, 2006--Universal Forest Products, Inc. (Nasdaq:UFPI) today announced that a wholly owned subsidiary has acquired a 50% interest in United Lumber & Reman LLC, an industrial wood manufacturing plant located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Universal also agreed to provide financing for United and plans to consolidate the company in its financial results.
United purchases low-grade lumber and prepares it for market through grading, sorting and manufacturing processes. Its products are used in a variety of industrial applications. The company's 2005 revenues were approximately $26 million. Universal has an option to purchase the remaining 50% of the company.
